North Side Diaper Ministry

My family and I would like to invite you to join us on our new endeavor in Christ as we learn how to begin and operate a diaper pantry. We have been asked by our church, Northside Assembly of God to head the diaper pantry project. While this will be a challenge, we know that all things are possible with God.

Did you know that baby diapers can cost $70-$80 per month, per child. Many parents work but still cannot afford all the needs of their family, including shelter, utilities, food, fuel, diapers, clothes, etc.. Daycare facilities require parents to bring 6-8 diapers per day, per child. Keeping babies and toddlers clean, dry and healthy is key to building a solid foundation for all children to reach their full potential.

Adult diapers can cost $160-$240 per month depending on the amount of diapers used daily. The average use is 5-8 diapers per day, per person. Elderly/disabled people live on a fixed income and often cannot afford adult diapers. Often, they will try to extend the use of the diaper and wear it much longer than is safe and sanitary. This can cause issues like urinary tract infections, rashes, odor, and immediate danger of skin problems, including skin breakdown that can bring on life threatening infections.

Because of the COVID-19 situation, we are having our first “virtual diaper drive” online. Later, when the restrictions are lifted, we will hold diaper drives in person and have locations that the diapers and/or monetary donations can be dropped off at. We will be posting locations, dates and times on social media so please “follow” Northside Assembly’s Facebook page to keep informed.

Our diaper pantry, simply called Northside Assembly Diaper Pantry (NADP) will be partnering with the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks (DBO). By partnering with DBO, we will be able to learn the ins and outs of running a diaper pantry correctly. They will guide and train us as we volunteer for them.

​

Once we have enough diapers and other supplies we will need, then we will hold our first “Pop Up” diaper give away to members of our community that are in need. We will assess where the need is and every time we go out, we will take our mobile diaper pantry where the need is.

In summary, we need your money!!!! We greatly appreciate any and all help. If you cannot donate financially, we will be needing individuals to help us collect and distribute the diapers. Feel free to contact us at northsidepantry2020@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer.
